Fall is such a beautiful time of year! Especially here in the mountains! Blue skies. Gorgeous leaves. A trip to an old hunting cabin had no shortage of these fall staples.20131112-080425.jpg

OOTD: comfy cozy

17 Oct

Sometimes I have those days where all I want to do is stay in my pjs. All. Day. Long. Even though I love clothes and putting together new outfits is one of my favorite things to do, there are still times where I just want to be comfy and cozy. Luckily, I have a wonderful job that allows me to wear great fashion, express my own style, and permits cute, comfy outfits like this one!

A simple oversized sweat shirt, leopard scarf, leggings, and knee high boots kept me both comfortable and stylish for a day at work.

OOTD: stripes to the max(i)

5 Oct

I know I’ve been absent lately from the blogging world *sigh*. I’ve just been so busy and working on some other fun, fashion-y projects. From now on, though, I’m going to try and blog a little more often. Pinky promise!

Today’s post is all about an outfit I wore to work this afternoon. I love this maxi skirt! The fact that it’s long but short at the same time is fun with just a touch of sexy. Sorry the pictures aren’t the best quality. The lighting inside my house is pretty crappy at night!

DIY: Burlap and Muslin Wreath

29 Aug

Today was my day off. Since I have been working so much lately, I vowed to make it an actual day off with only minimal housework and lots of relaxation. Of course, I just couldn’t resist another project and here is what I came up with!

What you will need:
burlap
muslin
raffia
scissors
hot glue gun
stick wreath (You can get these for super cheap! Mine was only $3.00!)

I began by cutting a piece of burlap into a long strip, wrapping it around the wreath, and gluing it into place with my hot glue gun.

20130829-164254.jpg
Next, I made my little muslin flowers. I really love these guys and think they would be super cute on pillows and tons of other projects. To make the flowers, cut a piece of muslin into a long strip. The length and width of the strip are up to you. Obviously the longer and wider the strip, the bigger your flower will be. Then tie a knot in one end of the strip.

20130829-164551.jpg
Then you want to begin wrapping the remaining length of the strip around the knot gluing it with your glue gun every wrap to secure. I like to twist as I wrap every now and then just to make the flower bulkier and more interesting.

20130829-164750.jpg
Continue wrapping until you have reached the end of your strip of muslin.

20130829-164851.jpg

20130829-164905.jpg
When you reach the end, simply tuck it on the back of he flower and glue down with your glue gun. I made five of these for my wreath.

20130829-164955.jpg

20130829-165007.jpg
After finishing my flowers, I began cutting the burlap into strips.

20130829-165217.jpg
In order to get that ruched, scrunchy look I wanted, I took one end of the strip, picked out one of the little frayed strings and began pulling.

20130829-165338.jpg

20130829-165354.jpg
Once it has scrunched up about half way down the strip, I switched and repeated the process on the other end of the strip.

20130829-165505.jpg

20130829-165522.jpg

20130829-165533.jpg
I did this to five strips for my wreath but you could always do more or less. After this was complete, I arranged them into circles on the wreath itself and secured them with my glue gun.

20130829-165726.jpg
To make the “leaves” for my flowers, I took the raffia and tied several pieces together to form a bow.

20130829-165905.jpg
After the bow was tied, I cut the looped portion of the bow to make the frayed ends.

20130829-165951.jpg

20130829-170003.jpg
Using my glue gun, I then fastened these under the burlap on the wreath.

20130829-170052.jpg
Finally, I added my little muslin flowers and yay! All done!

20130829-170156.jpg

20130829-170210.jpg
I am so happy with how it turned out! I think it would be just precious on a front door or on a wall inside! If you have any questions, feel free to ask! Hope you enjoy!

Camo’s New Life Out of the Woods

22 Aug

Not too long ago, if you had asked me about camouflage I would have said the only place that particular print is acceptable is in a tree stand or when participating in other equally out-dorsy activities. Who would have thought that I would be┬ádying┬áto incorporate it into my fall wardrobe! I’m starting small with accessories (baby steps!); namely a fun camouflage scarf that I purchased recently. However, I am hoping to soon be able to fearlessly embrace the trend like these ever stylish fashionistas!

Fabulous Fashion Fridays: taking summer dresses into fall

12 Oct
All of us have those cute, little summer dresses that we do not want to have to put away when fall comes rolling around. The great thing is that we don’t have to put them away! One easy way to carry a summery dress into fall is with a leather bomber style jacket and some tough boots.
fall 2

Sundresses are versitale and comfortable in the summer and can be the same in the fall! Just throw a chunky knit sweater over the dress to turn it into a flirty printed skirt! Top if off with a scarf and boots and you are ready to go!
fall
Tights and leggings can be added to any of these looks for extra warmth. Also, knee high or over the knee socks can be included! Comment and let me know how you take your summer dresses into fall!
