I picked up Physicians Formula Mineral Correcting Powder at Target for around $13.00 about a month ago. I gravitated towards this one because of its claims to “correct the most common skin imperfections, smooth skin texture and even out skin tone. Pink brightens, Green tones down redness and Yellow adds warmth.” Despite these lofty claims, this product totally delivers.
This powder goes on smoothly over foundation and totally changes your complexion. I have found myself wearing less and less foundation thanks to Physicians Formula! I have strong red undertones in my skin and I have combated that with different foundations and powders for years, however this powder totally evens out my skin tone without making me look pasty or dull. In the place of my redness, I am left with an even complexion and a beautiful glow. If you are looking for shine control, you will also not be let down by this compact. Despite my skin’s tenancy to become oily midday, this powder totally prevents that while also keeping my foundation in place. Need another bonus? All Physicians Formula products are cruelty free! So you can buy without harming any critters in the process.
If I had to list a con to all the pros of this makeup, I would have to say its the brush. Though this is not an issue for me since I never use the brushes that come with compacts. But if you do, beware because the brush is very small and course. My advice: grab a regular powder brush and don’t let this tiny con prevent you from trying out this amazing product!
This is without a question my all time favorite powder and I will certainly be buying it again! If you decide to try it out please let me know what you think!
I had the BEST surprise when I went to the mailbox today! I received my very first Influenster VoxBox! I couldn’t believe it! If you don’t know, Influenster is a website where you review products, complete surveys, and give your opinion about products on social media. You earn badges by completing these task and, as a result, qualify for FREE items via VoxBoxes! How cool is that!
The spring VoxBox includes a bunch of awesome stuff that I will be reviewing in the near future so stay tuned!
One of the products in the spring VoxBox was NYC’s Applelicious Glossy Lip Balm in Big Apple Red #356. The packaging is similar to your average lipstick, but the texture of this balm is anything but average lipstick material. Unlike lipstick, this is a creamy, moisturizing, chapstick like balm. This product glides on smoothly without even ruining the adorable apple emblem on the top! The color is very sheer and natural; it just provides a nice shimmery tint perfect for summer! To make things better, it smells absolutely amazing! Retailing for a meager $2.00 at CVS, everyone needs one of these fruity little guys in your makeup bag.
I had seen adds for this new mascara by Covergirl and when I found a coupon for it (for $3.00 off yipee!), I decided to give it a try. It retails for around $6.00 and I picked mine up at Target . This mascara comes in a variety of colors including black, dark brown, and very black; mine is the #800 very black. When I got the product home, I found the packaging to be very sturdy and it seems like it would hold a good amount of product. The brush on the wand is small and curved, not like many of the LashBlast product’s massive, volume enhancing brushes.
I was surprised when I found that I had to almost force the wand into the tube, however I think that this has a lot to do with this products ability to “crush clumps” because, by making that a tight fit ,it removes all the excess product. Once I had applied several coats to my lashes, I was pleased with the results. That is, in regards to delivering no clumps, this product really delivers. However, the product also advertises 200% more volume and I do not think that it produces as much volume as other LashBlast products. As a result, upon second application, I used my volumizing mascara first and then applied this mascara over top; that worked great! My lashes were separated, volumized, and clump free.
If you have really thick lashes that tend to clump very easily, this would work great for you or if you have super thin lashes that make one big, clumpy mess, I would also recommend this product. On the other hand, if you are wanting 200% more volume this isn’t going to be a good choice if you use it alone without another mascara.
As mentioned in a previous post, there is a Rite-Aid drugstore temptingly close to our house. Because of its close proximity, I run in there all the time to grab various things that we have run out of and need, like, now. I have all these coupons from there and Rite-Aid Wellness point thingys so, of course, I had to spend them now. I really got some great deals because they had a bogo going on for many of their beauty items that you could use in addition to the coupons. Woohoo! Anyways, I’m going to do a quick review on some of the things that I got.
I got some of my favorite foundation (click here for the review) because I was almost out and it was part of the bogo.
I also got some of my favorite eyeliner (review).
I got this nail polish for 50 cents. The color is called I Need a Refresh-Mint #218A and I thought it would be great for summer. For such a cheap nail polish, I have had really good results with it. It really does last a long time and dries very quickly. Great polish for the money!
This eyeliner was $1.50 because of some coupons that I had and the bogo. I used it last night when my husband and I went on a date and I was really impressed. It stayed on all night in fact, I could barely get it off with makeup wipes! Defiantly a great buy!
I love hairspray and I am very particular about my hairspray. I usually don’t like to try new ones because I’m always afraid it won’t work. However, this hairspray was only $2.00 with a coupon that I had so I didn’t think I would be out much if it was horrible. I was again pleasantly surprised! It holds great and makes hair very shiny. But be forewarned; if you do not like a strong hold hairspray this is NOT for you!
I also got some more of this mascara that I like (review).
There you go! What are your favorite drugstore products?
Taking the advice of numerous makeup gurus, I always set my liquid foundation with a powder. My skin is not overly oily, however my T-zone (especially my chin and forehead) do tend to get a little on the shiny side as the day wears on. This is yet another reason that I am a big believer in the powers of powder. I recently purchased Maybelline’s Dream Matte Powder at Rite Aid for around $7.00. I’m a big fan of the matte look and figured that, since this powder had “matte” in the name, that it would be especially suited to cut down on my shine issues. The powder comes with a application puff (which I never use) and a mirror. The slide out mirror is really handy and the packaging is study and efficient; very top notch for an inexpensive product. The powder itself is very fine and easily transfers onto a powder brush. The application is nothing short of flawless. It goes on effortlessly, is easily blended, and provides a very matte but still light finish. The powder’s downfall is its inability to last and as a result I would not recommend this powder. I was thrilled with the results when I first applied it, but a few short hours later my makeup was an oily, muddled mess. The powder actually seemed to make up face more oily than it had ever been before. It literally melted off my makeup and left blotches of foundation all over my face. I have never had this happen before, even when I have applied no powder at all over my liquid foundation. As a result, I will not be purchasing this powder again.
Have you had better results with this powder?
I must admit that I was not always a big lipstick person. Recently, however, I was browsing pictures of celebrities on the red carpet and thinking about how polished and put together the leading ladies appeared. Later that night, my husband and I were watching The Voice and, again, I thought about how stunning the girls looked. Besides designer duds and fabulous styling, all these girls had one thing in common: lipstick. As a result, I have been branching out and lipstick has now become a staple of my everyday wardrobe. It really does add instant glam to even the most average outfit. Because of my recent lipstick conversion, I have found three drugstore lipsticks that I absolutely love.
My three favorites are Mary Kay Signature Lipstick in Red Salsa, Wet N Wild Silk Finish in Sunset Peach, and Rimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate Moss #12.
The Mary Kay lipstick is rich and creamy and glides on like a dream. The thing I like most is that it does not feel clumpy or thick once applied. In addition, the color itself is very bold with a slightly shiny finish. It is fairly long lasting and this color can be worn boldly straight out of the tube or be blotted for a more subdued wash of color. It is such a flattering shade for a variety of skin tones.
The ultimate go-to, everyday lipstick. I adore the satiny finish of this Wet N Wild lipstick and, at $.99, you really can’t go wrong! It feels super light on your lips – like you aren’t wearing lipstick at all. The color is sheer-ish but buildable. I wear this peach-y shade almost everyday because it is just slightly darker than my natural lipcolor and therefore very natural looking.
Anytime date night rolls around or I am wanting to kick up my outfit another notch, I always reach for this Rimmel London lipstick. Super pigmented and bold, this color really does last all day (or night!) long. It is very matte so I sometimes wear it under a gloss but it looks amazing with or without a gloss topcoat. This particular shade is a coral-y red that is still a nod to the more classic reds while taking it to an entirely different level! LOVE!

This mascara has been a staple in my makeup bag for quite sometime now. I usually buy mine at Rite Aid and it costs around $4.00. I have long, dark eyelashes however they are not very full or thick. Since they are so long, they tend to clump super duper easy especially when I use a volumizing mascara with a larger brush. Maybelline One by One mascara delivers completely clump-free lashes while still pumping up the volume. Something else I like about this mascara is that, because it does really prevent clumps and separate lashes, it makes lashes fan out and appear much more full (which is a big plus for me). The brush is sort of rubbery and is super easy to use because of its smaller size. Also because it is small, it can really target those small, inner-corner lashes and the lashes on the lower lash line. This tube of mascara really lasts a long time too which is awesome especially because it is only $4.00 (ish). It comes in three great, everyday colors: very black, blackest black (my favorite!), and brownish black. The only thing I do not like about this mascara is that it does tend to flake a little towards the end of the day, however this flaking does not cause your lashes to look clumpy or lose volume. I would highly recommend this product for anyone looking for a cheap mascara that really yields good results.
